Our
village is La Pernelle
La
Pernelle is about half an hour's drive from the ferry port at
Cherbourg, a short distance from the north-eastern coast of the
Cotentin Peninsula. It lies just off the main Barfleur -
Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue road, overlooking the beautiful Val-de-Saire
from a height of 123 m. As well as the spectacular view, the
village is also interesting for the pretty church of Saint
Pétronille, for its town hall (renowned es one of the smallest in
France) and for its grotto with a reproduction of the shrine at
Lourdes. There are also vestiges of wartime occupation (La
Pernelle is just 15 minutes' drive from the start of the Normandy
Landing Beaches).
